Contractors are out on the Five Ways Island in Shifnal to repair the section of road, after a hole appeared a week ago.

Efforts to find the cause of the hole have so far proved inconclusive according to Shropshire Council.

But they said repairs are now to get underway.

Graham Downes, Shropshire Council’s highways manager, south, said:- “The Haughton Lane, Shifnal carriageway void is going to be repaired by our contractors Ringway, following investigations alongside utility companies that did not determine the cause.”

Road closures have been in place after the hole opened up in the carriageway around the island. After the hole appeared last Tuesday morning, August 30, workers were sent to the site for emergency repairs.

But the cause of the hole has still not been determined and further investigation work has been carried out by the council and utility companies.

The work has caused some issues for motorists, as it affects traffic coming into Shifnal from the direction of Bridgnorth via the A4169 and also traffic coming from the M54 via junction four and heading into the town on the Priorslee Road.
