The stars of Telford’s Christmas pantomime are urging Shropshire Star readers to support our Christmas Toy Appeal as it enters its final week.

Thomas Redgrave, who is playing the lead role in Peter Pan at Oakengates Theatre

Thomas Redgrave, who plays the title role in Peter Pan at Oakengates Theatre, took time out from performing to urge people to support the campaign.

For the third year running we are joining forces with our partners at Storage King in Shrewsbury to spread a little festive joy to youngsters who might be finding Christmas a difficult time.

All toys donated will be shared between five different good causes which help children around the county.

Thomas said: “It’s great to see the community coming together to support these kids at Christmas.

“I hope everybody does what they can to back the toy appeal.”

Hundreds of toys, books and other gifts have poured into our collection points since the appeal was launched last month.

They will be distributed among five organisations: Hope House Children’s Hospice, The Harry Johnson Trust, which supports children with cancer, The Movement Centre in Gobowen which helps children with mobility problems, as well as the children’s ward at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust, and Telford & Wrekin children’s services.

Darren Hall, regional manager of Storage King which has been helping us with the appeal, said: “It’s a great opportunity to help kids who are less fortunate, and might either be away from home at this time of year, or might not get much in the way of toys or that sort of thing.”
