The seeds for the new Oakengates History Group were sown with a meeting to gauge interest in September at which over 50 people turned up.

From this meeting, a number of people put their names forward to form a committee, and at a follow-up meeting it was unanimously agreed that Gregory Vernon would take up the position of chairman and Mrs Alison Hinks secretary on a temporary basis.

Annual membership was set at £5, with bimonthly meetings on Thursdays at 7pm - February, April, June, September, November and a social get together in December.

Venue is The Wakes, Theatre Square, Oakengates.

Mr Vernon said: "The group has the use of the current Oakengates and surrounding areas Facebook page. The group has a table at Oakengates Library with information on it and someone from the group will be on hand on the first Saturday of each month. There are events and talks planned for 2018."
