People gathered outside their homes to watch at least three fire crews tackle the blaze, at Pinelodge Tyres in Plough Lane, Wrockwardine Wood.

Six crews were sent to the scene. By 1.30pm the road had been partially reopened.

Ian Lee, station manager for Shrewsbury, said: "We had a fire at Pinelodge Tyre Services, with the flames confined to the yard and involving a quantity of used tyres.

"There has been some involvement in the property next door. We've carried out a search of that property and it has been well ventilated. It's only been affected mildly by fire and somewhat by smoke."

This video was taken by Danny James:

Mr Lee added: "We had six appliances in total. We had multiple calls which we thought were two separate incidents initially from the calls we'd received from the public. We mobilised sufficient resources to the area anyway, but all of those crews were involved in some degree.

"Fire investigation is ongoing. We're not ruling anything out, but we're not expecting it to be deliberate."
