George Crawford: Police searching for iPhone after Newport crash tragedy

Police investigating the death of a student in a car accident in Newport are keen to find an iPhone in a red or orange case.

George Crawford, 20, a student at Harper Adams University at Chetwynd Aston, died after being hit by a car on Forton Road, Newport, at 4.10am on Sunday.

Police said today they were keen to trace the phone, which they say could be relevant to the investigation and might be on or around Forton Road or Avondale.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference number 106s of October 7.

A full inquest into George's death will take place next year.

The inquest was opened today by Shropshire Coroner John Ellery, who heard police were called to a road traffic collision at around 4.15am on October 7.

West Mercia Police and West Midland Ambulance service were called to Forton Road in Newport, where Mr Crawford was found and taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital, however he died later that day.

The coroner also heard that Mr Crawford's body was identified on October 15.

Mr Ellery adjourned the inquest for a hearing to take place on January 31.
