The work of Ella Boardman, 21, who works at Flowerfair, in Dawley, will be on display at next spring’s Chelsea Flower Show after taking part in the regional heats.

She will be vying against 15 rivals for the top spot in the young florist category.

The former Rodbaston College student, who lives in Newport, said: “I am really excited about competing at Chelsea. I am really looking forward to it. This is the first time I’ve done anything like this.

"I applied via the British Florist Association and was accepted for the regional heats which I competed at in Preston. The judges seemed to be focused on the standard of wiring skills this year. I had to create a bridal posy. I came third there and when they released the names of the top 16 heading to the Chelsea show I was on there.”

Ella, of Avondale, Newport, attended Idsall School, in Shifnal, before studying level three floristry at Rodbaston, Penkridge.

Flowerfair proprietor Sam Parkinson said:” Ella is very hard working and dedicated. We sponsored her entry and we’ll all be in London to support her.”

The Chelsea Flower Show is staged in May.
