Fascinating unearthed photo shows 100ft-long Comet making its final journey to RAF Cosford
This Comet airliner caused a few headaches when it made its last journey to RAF Cosford, near Albrighton, in September, 1978.
It took three giant transporters to move the 100ft-long aircraft by road from RAF Shawbury, near Shrewsbury.
They had to be negotiated round tricky right-angled corners on the camp and part of the perimeter fence had to be dismantled to get the airliner to the aerospace museum, where it will be on permanent display.
The Comet, freshly painted in BOAC colours, was the 22nd built in 1951 and made its last flight in 1968.
