Brian Wilkes, 84, of Grace Road, Tipton, was riding his Piaggo scooter on the motorway in Shropshire on June 14.
An inquest at the Shirehall in Shrewsbury on Tuesday was told Mr Wilkes was taken by ambulance to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital where he passed away on August 3.
Senior coroner for Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, said that Mr Wilkes had died from natural causes.
