The plan will see around 600 homes built in the area

The proposal, for 600 homes, known as 'Lawley Phase 11', was given permission at Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee this afternoon.

Councillors went with the recommendation from planning officers to grant reserved matters approval for the project.

The split of the development will see 122 two-bed houses and apartments created, 320 three-bed homes, 139 four-bed homes, and 19 five-bed units.

A report considered by councillors said it will feature a mix of housing types – terraces, semis, detached, and apartments.

They will mainly be two-storey homes with some two and a half units.

Barratt Homes will build 221, Persimmon will deliver 196, and Taylor Wimpey 183.

The report approved by councillors says that the focal point of the development will be a retained circle of trees at the northern edge of the site, which is proposed to be dedicated as public open space.

The plan has proved controversial with more than 100 letters of objection from residents during the consultation on the proposal, and Telford's MP Lucy Allan also calling for it to be rejected.

Concerns have centred on the amount of development in the area and the impact on residents, drainage, land stability, and the loss of green space.
