Trudi Harsum wants to raise the cash to help families with accommodation costs when their loved ones need to have treatment at the Christie Hospital, a cancer treatment centre in Manchester.

Trudi’s husband Paul, 56, was treated at the hospital after being diagnosed with appendix cancer in 2017.

The 58-year-old, of Leegomery in Telford, was forced to rent a house so she could be near him during his treatment.

But she says it can be hard for families to afford the accommodation costs and is raising money to help others in similar circumstances.

She is now auctioning a pendant signed by Manchester United stars and four VIP tickets to a Wolves game.

Shock

Trudi, who works as an account co-ordinator at Telford-based waste management firm Reconomy, said: “When we were told that Paul had appendix cancer it was a complete shock.

“He needed to go to a specialist hospital and he had to have surgery.

“I had to rent a house in Manchester so I could be near him. We had a little bit of savings and some help but there are people who live far away and can’t afford to do it.

“The cost can be enormous. I wanted to help people with the cost of accommodation and this is what the money will go towards.”

After writing to Manchester United FC to see if the club could help, she was sent a pendant signed by Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera.

Trudi also got her hands on four VIP tickets for a Wolves game, with access to the director’s box at Molineux.

They have been put up for auction and Trudi is inviting people to place their bids by getting in touch by the end of April.

Trudi said: “I am trying to raise £1,000 by the end of the year. I’ve also done a car boot and businesses have been very generous in giving raffle prizes.”
