A firm called Telford One wants to set up the site on land next to Telford International Railfreight Park, at Hortonwood.

No details have been provided about the nature of the cars to be stored at the site, or any potential business links for the firm behind the application.

The proposal is to set up an external storage area with associated industrial units and offices.

The access for the site is off the A518, and is shared with the Telford International Rail Freight site.

The application states: "The site has good motorway links and has the potential to be served by the railway in the future."

The potential use of the site is also explained in the application, which states: "The site will be predominantly used as an external storage area for new cars with an area identified on the site plans for the storage of containers which could be accessed at any time.

"The containers are 8 ft wide x 20 ft long x 8 ft high and only stacked single story. The containers will sit in an area of the site which is approximately 3.5m lower than the adjacent A518 road and is further screened by thick mature hedgerow along the north and east boundary."

It adds that a large unit will also be created for storage, which could also include workshops.

It states: "There will also be a total of one, 5000sqft, industrial unit. This will be linked to the storage of new cars and could be workshops servicing the vehicles before they move on from the site."

In the conclusion the application states: "The premises will offer a high quality storage facility with access to the rail freight."

The planning application will be considered by Telford & Wrekin Council's planning committee.
