Tip-off to Telford councillor led to police cannabis raid
Information passed to a Telford & Wrekin councillor led to a cannabis farm being dismantled by police and 200 plants unearthed at a home in the town.
West Mercia Police carried out a drugs warrant at a home in Lydbury Close, Stirchley, last week.
Councillor Richard Overton, Telford & Wrekin Council's cabinet member for enforcement, was given the tip-off last month.
He informed Telford & Wrekin Council’s enforcement team who, in turn, called West Mercia Police.
Councillor Overton said: “It’s important for people to take pride in our community and report issues and concerns. Drug dealers could be anywhere, so I appeal to everyone to be our eyes and ears and help take these drugs off the streets.
“We work closely with our partners, such as police, to make our borough a safer and better place to live in, work in and visit.”
Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for the area, Paul Arnold, said: “We’re grateful to Councillor Overton for passing on this information to us that has enabled us to seize a considerable amount of cannabis presumably intended to be sold on our streets. This activity has meant we’ve been able to take them out of circulation.
“There is no doubt of the misery drugs cause and the associated crime and anti-social behaviour and it’s the community working together that can really help make a difference in ridding our streets of drugs.”
