Most of us might have one after dinner but one of the county’s major activity venues was today giving people a different way to celebrate pancake day.

Telford Ice Rink was embracing Shrove Tuesday in its own unique way – by hosting a charity pancake race on ice.

Local businesses and teams of four were battling it out in the competition to win the much coveted title of 'Best Flipper in Telford 2018'.

In total 24 people were taking part in today’s race, split into in six teams of four for the contest.

The relay race required a variety of skills, including serious balance and speed, with competitors tasked with flipping a pancake until they reached their team-mate at the other side of the rink.

As part of the event the team at Telford Ice Rink were asking for donations toward the Mayor’s Charity of the Year, Severn Hospice in Telford.

As if the competition was not difficult enough, the teams taking part were encouraged to wear fancy dress to help distinguish what businesses or teams they were representing.

The contest was taking place between 1pm and 2pm and speaking ahead of the contest Councillor John Minor, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet member for leisure, green spaces and parks, said: “This should be a fantastic and fun event! The only question that remains is, who will win the title of “Best Flipper in Telford 2018” and who will be taking away the booby prize of a wooden spoon?”
