Telford arts centre launches auditions for new shows

A Telford arts centre that recently sold out shows with its production of the popular musical Cats is launching its next project.

Arts Centre Telford, or Tact, will be holding auditions for two new shows this weekend.

Featuring one of the biggest casts ever for the popular West End musical, more than 100 youngsters took centre stage for Cats.

Aged from eight to 18, they played to standing ovations and sold-out shows over five performances last weekend at The Place in Oakengates.

Now founder and musical director of Tact Ross Doodson says they can’t wait to get started on the next project.

Auditions will be held tomorrow for a production of A New Brain at TACT’s Ketley campus while auditions for Alice in Wonderland will be held at its new Gaston Payne Campus on Stafford Park.

They are open to all and no preparation is required.

Mr Doodson said: “Cats was amazing thanks to so much hard work by all the cast and crew.

“Audiences loved it and I couldn’t be happier that everyone now can’t wait to start preparing our next productions. Everyone at Tact has what seems like endless energy and commitment and are all capable of great things.

“We work hard at Tact but it also pays off in that not only do the children love being part of a show that operates just like professional musical theatre but the audience is treated to exceptional arts right here in Shropshire.”

Mr Doodson said it was ambitious to cast so many youngsters in Cats but they had taken on the challenge brilliantly to create a wonderful spectacle.

Auditions for A New Brain will run from 2pm to 6pm for shows on May 12 and 13 while Alice in Wonderland auditions will run from midday to 4pm for shows on April 18 and 19.
