Crews from Albrighton, Telford Central and Wellington fire stations were called to the site of the old Grange Park Primary School in Calcott, Stirchley, at 8.10pm.

The fire slightly damaged the temporary building and furniture inside.

Fire investigators were called in and the blaze is being treated as suspicious.

Fire crews used a breathing apparatus, hose reel jet, main jet and thermal imaging camera to extinguish the flames.

Lessons were held for the last time at the former school in May last year.

Permission was granted to start demolition work at the site by Telford & Wrekin Council last year.

The new Grange Park Primary School has been built on a site at the old Lord Silkin/Lakeside Academy site in Grange Avenue.

After 10 years of planning and millions of pounds spent, students enjoyed their first day in their new purpose-built school in June.
