Man dies after tractor hits railway fence in Telford

A man has died after a tractor hit a railway fence in Telford.

Police and the ambulance service were sent to Wrockwardine Road just before 4pm on Monday and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

West Mercia Police spokeswoman Laura Maltby, said: "Police were notified by British Transport Police of a tractor colliding with a trackside fence near Wrockwardine Road in Telford shortly before 4pm today.

"Officers and ambulance attended and a man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious at this time."

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said one ambulance was sent to the scene.

She said: "We were called by the police at 3.50pm to reports of a tractor that had gone through a fence.

"We sent one ambulance to the scene."

Train services between Shrewsbury and Wellington were affected by the incident, with trains cancelled, delayed or revised.

National Rail said on its website: "The emergency services have dealt with an incident near the railway and all lines have reopened between Shrewsbury and Wellington.

"Disruption to trains between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton will continue while services return to normal."
