Fire crews tackle two Telford hay blazes in 30 minutes

Fire crews attended two straw fires in the space of 30 minutes in Telford last night.

The first was at Child Ercall shortly before 12.30am.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service received the call and one fire appliance was mobilised from Hodnet.

The fire involved 200 by 30 metres of hay and stray.

Less than 20 minutes later crews from Wellington were called to Great Bolas.

One appliance attended at 12.53am with 20 by 30 metres of baled hay was on fire in a field.

The fire service said the hay was being allowed to burn away in the centre of the field with no risk of spreading.

Crews were on standby and monitored the situation, but no other fire action was taken.
