Plans to replace eyesore old house

Plans have been submitted to demolish a rundown house and replace it with two new properties.

Andrew Ellis has applied for permission to demolish a house in Wellington Road, Muxton, and replace it with two detached houses.

The house had been falling into a state of disrepair over the past 15 years.

The plan has been met with a largely positive response from neighbours.

Graham Perks, who lives in Wellington Road, supported the proposals.

"This property has been an eyesore for many years, it will be a relief to see it demolished and two pleasant properties built in its place," he said.

"It has been overgrown and a source of rats for years."

Sally Green, also of Wellington Road, added: "Having been neighbours to the old dwelling we are more than happy for this site to be developed. Having suffered with the eyesore and the unsightly garden for over 15 years, the development of two sensible sized houses is very welcome. We wish the developer every success."

Jenny Urey, of nearby Sutherland Drive, said as a child she had dreamt of owning the house that was to be demolished. However, she said in recent years it had become increasingly run down.

"It has been an eyesore and still is," she said. "We have had issues with rats and from conversations with neighbours, they were from the property.

"I object strongly to more houses in Muxton, however this is an instance where two nicely designed modern-style family homes will replace a dilapidated, dirty, rat infested pile."

However, Stuart Foster of The Nabb, St George's, objected to the plans, saying he thought the house could not be demolished because of a covenant.

"It was supposed to be renovated and restored to its former glory, not demolished and replaced with two new houses," he said

The matter will now be considered by the council's planning department.
