Motorists faced delays on the M54 after a car crashed into a barrier on the M54 eastbound.

Three fire engines were sent from Telford and Wellington at about 5pm on Friday after the car hit a barrier.

The collision blocked one lane between junction seven at Wellington and junction six at Telford, causing queues in both directions.

Witness Thomas Kennedy saw the aftermath of the accident. He said: "The central barrier, which is metal, was totally wrecked. The car appears to have gone right through it and then spun."

Metal motorway barriers are in the process of being replaced because of concerns about safety. The M6 and M5 are among routes where concrete blocks have been fitted to prevent vehicles from passing onto the other carriageway.
