The damaged “Stirchley of Liberty”

It was put up in May this year near Holmer Lake in Stirchley, Telford, so that everyone driving down the A442 Queensway could see it as they passed.

With its wry wink and instantly recognisable A to Z, the artwork appeared overnight.

But now someone has damaged the statue, breaking off the A to Z and leaving sharp wooden edges where it had been.

The 8ft tall replica of the New York statue suddenly appeared on the lake earlier this year, although nobody is entirely sure why it appeared or who did the artwork.
