Thomas Copp and Russ Sparke have been appointed by the Ludlow hotel as conservation consultant and designer respectively.

They will work hand in hand with Crest Hotels to ensure the hotel’s makeover complies with conservation rules placed on the Grade I listed building while meeting the demands of the twenty-first century.

Crest Hotels completed the purchase of The Feathers in December, 2018. The firm is investing more than £1 on the 40-bedroom property, which includes an aesthetic makeover to public areas, bedrooms and the function suite, as well as complete new plumbing throughout.

A new tea room and restaurant will open with the am of achieving accreditation with two AA Rosette’s within six months of opening.

Jason Hiley, group operations director at Crest Hotels, said: “The building dates back to 1619 and is much loved, not only by the people of Ludlow but throughout the country and we want to preserve as much of the original features and identity as possible with the refurbishment. To help us realise our vision, we have made two high quality appointments who will help give the hotel a new lease of life for what we hope is many, many more years to come."

The hotel company purchased the Feathers after it went into administration following the death of a guest.

Elaine Brown, 69, died on August 26 2017 after suffering a stroke as a result of contracting the disease, which was linked to bacteria in the plumbing at the hotel.

The hotel was closed in the September after Mrs Brown’s death and reopened in November after two months of remedial work. It went into administration on August 2, 2018.
