18 metre broadband mast plans for Ludlow

A new 18 metre broadband mast could be installed in Ludlow if plans are approved.

Airband has applied for the mast to be built at Angel Bank Farm, Angel Bank, Bitterley.

Airband is an internet service company that provides broadband to rural communities across the country.

Under plans, a steel base will be set in a concrete plinth, and an access ladder and latch way will run up the length of the mast for engineer access.

Anti-climb measures will be installed at about five metres high.

One large green metal electrics cabinet will be installed about 2.5 metres away from the mast for meters, cabling, networking and other equipment.

The cabinet will be secured onto a concrete pad and its equipment will be entirely enclosed by a wooden fence around one metre high.

A letter within the application to Shropshire Council says that a site on the opposite side of the road was originally proposed.

It states: "Airband had originally proposed a site on the opposite side of the road, adjacent to the barn which is a current Airband transmitter site.

"Following feedback from the neighbours and local councillor, and other network changes, Airband re-examined the requirements and agreed to move the proposed location to the other side of the lane.

"This means the residents of the area would have to look up at the structure and not down."

A decision on the mast will be made by Shropshire Council in the coming months.
