A drop-in session will be held on Monday for the public to find out about work in Orleton, between Ludlow and Leominster, as a £550,000 upgrade to the sewers in the area is set to go ahead.

Severn Trent Water is inviting people to come and find out more about its plans.

Gareth Mead, speaking for the utility company, said: “During spells of heavy rain the sewers in Millbrook Close and Mortimer Drive struggle to deal with the increase in waste water during bad weather.

“We’ll be installing larger pipes to increase the capacity in the sewers and to protect homes from sewer flooding – which nobody wants to experience.

“We’re now inviting local people to come and see us to find out more about our plans and to raise any concerns they might have.”

The community drop-in session will take place at Orleton Village Hall in Millbrook Way from 4pm to 7pm on Monday.

Gareth added: “This is a really important investment that will reduce the risk of flooding to a number of homes.

“We’re planning on starting work during the week starting Monday, July 17 and expect to be finished by the end of the year.

“To allow our contractors from Amey to work safely there will be temporary road closures in place, and the engineers will work in 50 metre sections at a time to minimise disruption as much as possible.

“We’ll work hard to get this work completed as quickly as possible and we hope that local people will appreciate the great benefits it will bring,” he said.
