The Aston on Clun Steam and Vintage Show is now in its third year, the idea of former Hopesay parish councillor John James.

This year people came to the village between Craven Arms and Clun to see 17 classic and vintage cars, 30 vintage tractors, 30 motorcycles, a dozen working oil engines and steam displays including a full steam roller, a traction engine and portable and static steam engines.

Mr James said the event had proved more popular than previous fundraising events.

He said: "I used to be a parish councillor and originally I used to do it as a sports fun day to raise money to look after the green.

"But that was never as successful as I'd like it so three years I decided to change it to a vintage day. Even the first one was really successful," he said.

He said some of the money still went to Hopesay Parish Council and the village green but from last year and money was also given to to charity.

"Last year it went to Hope House Children's Hospice and West Midlands Air Ambulance, this year it will be going to Hope House again and also Ludlow Hospital.

"We raised a total of £3,366 after costs and I want to thank all the volunteer marshals for their help on the day – I couldn't do it without them," he said.
