David Jackson has written Surgeon In The Raw with his wife Nicola Jackson.

David travelled the world as a military surgeon in war zones such as Northern Ireland, The Falklands and Bosnia.

The 71-year-old has now published his memoir which describes the many changes in medicine over the decades, the horrors of working in makeshift military surgical units and the human cost of conflict.

He also candidly explores his own personal battles with serious, long-term illness as a young man as well as the pain and despair that the breakdown of a marriage can inflict on a man and his children.

“The book tells of my training as a surgeon, starting with medical school and my early days in the NHS,” David explained.

“Then my 17 years as a military surgeon. It also looks at my distressing personal circumstances.”

The book is available through all good bookshops and internet booksellers.
