It had been announced that the pool at Teme Church Stretton Leisure Centre would be closed until the end February while damage to the roof was repaired.

The pool was forced to close in October when the damage, caused by a leak, was discovered and rendered the pool unsafe to enter.

It was initially estimated that the repair work would lead to the closure of the pool for five to eight weeks, until Teme announced that the opening date had been set back by two months.

But that estimate has now been revised again, after arrangements were made for the work to be completed with the pool open.

Delighted

A statement from Teme said: "We are delighted to announce that work on the swimming pool roof will commence early in the New Year and the swimming pool can reopen in January.

"A plan has been formulated in order to reopen the pool on Monday 13 January at 5pm.

"The pool will remain open to the public during the construction work.

"Work is estimated to be completed towards the end of February, weather dependant.

"Individual refunds for members will be calculated, issued and communicated once the pool has reopened.

"We would like to extend our thanks to all of our customers for their patience during the closed period and we look forward to welcoming you all back in January.

"In the meantime we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

Swimming lessons will re-start on January 20.

All other facilities at the leisure centre remain open as normal, and people are being encouraged to make use of the swimming pools at nearby Teme sites in Bishop's Castle and Ludlow.
