Driver freed after car rolls 100ft down Shropshire's Carding Mill Valley - with pictures

A driver had to be freed from his car after it rolled about 100ft down Carding Mill Valley, near Church Stretton, today.

Four fire engines, the police, an air ambulance and a land ambulance were sent to the scene at about 9am.

The driver, a man in his 70s, was conscious inside his Mini and did not suffer serious injuries, and was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital via land ambulance.

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 9am to reports of a road traffic collision with a patient trapped.

"The car has rolled approximately 100ft down, but the driver has suffered no serious injuries.

"We worked with the fire service to reach the vehicle and the patient was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital."

Four fire engines including the rescue tender were sent from Church Stretton, Craven Arms and Wellington. An operations officer was in attendance.

The crews used cutters, small gear and winches to free the man from the vehicle and convey him down the bank into the care of the ambulance service.
