The alert is in force for the Ledwyche Brook and River Rea, with people warned about possible rising water levels at the Newnham Bridge river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

The Environment Agency warned that flooding could affect some roads and farmland adjacent to the river.

Locations that may be affected include Cleobury Mortimer, Neen Sollars and Caynham.

The agency said it was closely monitoring the situation and warned people to avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses.

Dave Throup, Environment Agency manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire, posted on Twitter last night: "Rain has passed through now but rivers responding to catchment runoff."
