A man was air lifted to hospital after falling down a concrete pipe.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service, Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Burrington near Ludlow at about 2pm to reports of a person falling down a concrete pipe.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer, a BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

Jamie Arrowsmith, West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman, said: “On arrival, crews discovered a man who had fallen approximately two-metres.

“The man, who was suffering from a slightly reduced level of consciousness, was treated for a head, knee and shoulder injuries.

“He was immobilised at the scene and given pain relief before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham for further treatment.”

A line rescue vehicle was sent from Malvern station to the incident, along with a heavy pump from Hereford, a rescue pump from Leintwardine, and some specialist equipment from the Urban Search and Rescue team.

Also, three fire appliances including the Rescue Tender were sent from Ludlow, Shrewsbury and Wellington.
