Woman had medical episode before A49 crash near Craven Arms

An elderly woman suffered a medical episode at the wheel of her car before a crash on the A49 near Craven Arms.

The woman was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after the crash yesterday afternoon.

The A49 was closed after the crash at about 5pm until about 10.20pm.

Jamie Arrowsmith, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “On arrival at the scene, crews discovered two patients, the driver of each vehicle.

“Ambulance staff were told that the first patient, an elderly woman, was believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel, prior to the collision. Following treatment on scene, she was airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.

“The second patient, a woman believed to be in her 50s, was treated for chest and abdominal injuries and taken to Hereford Hospital by land ambulance.”
