The Grade II Ledwyche Bridge on the outskirts of Ludlow will be closed from Monday, September 18, for parapet repairs.

The work will involve taking down and rebuilding the upstream bridge parapet which was damaged when it was hit by a vehicle.

The bridge carries Squirrel Lane from the Sheet Road junction to the A4117.

Motorists in the area will face disruption with traffic diverted via the A4117 and the A49.

Pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be able to use the bridge throughout the work.

Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible."

A council spokesman said the bridge must be closed to traffic for the repairs because the road is too narrow to for the work to be carried out safely while it is open to traffic.
