Oil spillage causes long delays on A5 between Shrewsbury and Telford

There was traffic chaos on the A5 between Shrewsbury and the M54 on Monday afternoon after oil spilled onto the carriageway.

Emergency services were called out to the car and trailer on the eastbound carriageway just before 3pm.

Two fire crews from Shrewsbury went to the scene and discovered a car and a trailer leaking fuel.

Firefighters made the vehicle safe in an operation lasting 40 minutes.

Dangers from the oil spillage meant that the A5 eastbound was partially blocked.

Long queues built up between the A49 Preston Island and the junction for Wellington affecting traffic heading towards Telford.
