Fire on train carrying logs halts rail services

Trains were halted on the Shrewsbury to Craven Arms after a fire involving a goods train carrying logs.

The alarm was raised at Church Stretton Railway Station at 8.20pm on Monday .

Firefighters from the town were joined by crews from Ludlow and Craven Arms who used high power jets to bring the fire under control by 9.10pm.

They then used thermal imaging cameras to ensure all the fire was out.

Trains on the line were stopped while the fire service operation was ongoing.
