Fire service called to horse stuck in River Severn in Shrewsbury

Emergency services were called to help rescue a horse which had become stuck in the River Severn.

The incident happened at about 6.45am on Tuesday in the river at Monkmoor in Shrewsbury.

Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service sent four appliances including the rescue tender and the water rescue unit from Shrewsbury and Wellington, as well as an operations officer.

The fire brigade reported the incident involved one horse that became stuck in the river, and that it was eventually able to be led to safety by its owner.

Emergency services were at the scene for more than an hour before leaving at about 8.10am.
