Students from Shrewsbury Academy have recently taken part in The Great Big Art Exhibition in the town, alongside a number of other schools.

The winning designs have been selected and made into colourful animal flags which have been displayed around the town.

According to the school's leadership, art has been a popular way that staff have worked with students particularly over lockdown to help them express their thoughts and feelings.

Julie Johnson, head of school, said: “We are extremely proud that our students have had their work displayed around the town, it has been a real sense of achievement for our school community. Art is so important and allowing our students to express themselves. I look forward to them entering more competitions over the next academic year.

"If you are passing through Shrewsbury make sure to keep your eyes peeled and you will see quite a few of our students amazing designs!”

Shrewsbury BID organised the project. Jonathan Soden, Shrewsbury BID director and owner of contemporary art gallery, The Soden Collection in Wyle Cop, said: “We really wanted the town centre to have a vibrant and positive atmosphere as businesses reopened, and these flags certainly add to the mix.

“The children really got into the spirit of the exhibition and we have tried to use as many of the pictures as we possibly could – the standard was extremely high, and everyone who sent in their artwork should be really proud of themselves.”
