Amy Marie O'Connell, 30, was visited by police at home after concerned members of the public observed her while parked up with her baby in the car in Upper Road, Meole Brace, Shrewsbury.

An officer later attended her house, in Burnside Gardens, Shrewsbury, and conducted a breath test. O'Connell gave a reading of 98mg in 100ml of breath, more than twice the drink-drive limit.

She admitted driving a motor vehicle while above the legal alcohol limit – but her solicitor told the court that she only put in a guilty plea due to not having the finances to take the case to trial, and that she was over the limit due to drinking gin after she got home from her drive.

As well as disqualifying her from the road, magistrates fined her £200 and ordered her to pay £169 costs.
