Concerns had been raised by members of the public who wanted to get their jabs at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after it was closed over the weekend.

But officials have confirmed the hub, which has capacity to administer around 500 vaccines a day, is closed so staff can be trained. It will be reopened in the next few weeks. In the meantime, people have been advised to book in at other local hubs and through their GP practices.

Angie Wallace, Covid vaccination service programme director for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin said: “As part of our planning, the Hospital Hub at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has been temporarily closed for vaccinations and is currently being used for staff vaccination training until it reopens for second vaccines to be administered in the next few weeks.

"Many more vaccination centres have now opened across the county, including Telford International Centre, Ludlow Racecourse, AFC Telford United, Shrewsbury Indoor Bowls Centre and vaccine delivery through GP practices, to allow people to be vaccinated close to where they live.”
