When Julia Mytton takes the shopping to her 84-year old father Neil, she has to put on her wellies, load the shopping in a rucksack and carry it down a track and across a field.

Mr Mytton and his neighbours in Brompton Lane near Cross Houses have been struggling to get in and out of their homes because of flooding that hits every time there is a downpour.

They are asking for council help in dealing with the recurring problem.

Julia says the same problem hit last year and despite pleas for help nothing has been done.

She said she understood that the problem was a blocked drain in the lane.

Water from flooded fields in the area makes its way onto the roads and at Brompton is unable to drain away because of the blockage, she said.

"Cars haven't been able to get through and because my father had arthritis I go to see him every day with shopping and to get his coal in."

"The only solution I have found is to put the shopping in my rucksack and then park on a lane across from the area of Brompton where he lives.

"I then have to put on my wellies and walk down a lane and across a very muddy field."

Wheelbarrow

Julia said that to help her father exercise despite his arthritis she managed to get him a small exercise bike to use at home.

"I even had to carry that across the field," she said.

She said that Mr Mytton's neighbours were also having problems.

"A neighbour had to pick up some dog food the other day and had to get it to the house in a wheelbarrow."

"When it is really bad the water goes up the path towards the front door."

"A farmer has brought in a pump to pump the water from the fields. But the drain really does need sorting out.

"We approached the council last year and asked if something could be done about the lane. But this year it is just as bad as ever."

Shropshire Council has been asked for a comment.
