Hundreds gathered for Shropshire Potato Day last year

Shropshire Potato Day was due to take place on February 7 at Wattlesborough Village Hall near Shrewsbury. Under normal circumstances, hundreds would gather to view a huge variety of potatoes and other produce, but it has had to be shelved for obvious reasons.

But organisers have gone online for ordering to help customers grab their favourites and so farmers can salvage some cash they would otherwise miss out on.

Rachel Strivens, chairwoman of Shropshire Organic Gardeners (SOG), said: "Sadly we have had to cancel our annual packed event at Wattlesborough Village Hall (including the famous SOGs home baked cakes), but we've moved with the times and gone on-line for ordering. Check out our website for the list of all the potatoes, their growing and cooking details, the order forms and BACs or cheque payment details.

"The main collection day will still be Saturday, February 6 at Hindford Grange Farm, Whittington, SY11 4NR between 10.30am to 3.00pm. You must not just turn up without previously putting an order in via the website. Strict Covid rules will be in place at the farm and all orders will be made up ready to put in your vehicle.

"Other central collection points and delivery are available so just let us know on the order form or via the email shropsorgs@gmail.com and we can help you.

"You can also order the Brighter Blooms items of fruit bushes, onion sets and seeds from the direct link on the SOG's website. They will be added to the order for collection.

"We will continue selling the seed potatoes through February and March and will arrange collection or delivery as necessary."
