Magician and entertainer Paul Rushworth, aka Paul Ray, released a DVD to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK

Shrewsbury's Paul Rushworth has long been a supporter of the Shropshire Alzheimer's Research UK fundraising group - raising smiles through his performances as well as vital funds.

He began posting cheery videos on Facebook at the beginning of the first lockdown, then suggested to the group that a DVD could raise much needed cash. Paul and his wife Jane started filming and videographer Wynne Jones edited and put the DVD together - and even included local scenes of Shropshire amongst Paul’s impressions and songs.

His charming and gentle mix of comedy, impressions and song is a great favourite with many Shropshire fans, some of whom have seen Paul and his dad, the popular Geoff Rushworth, perform at shows all over the country.

Telford Business Club sponsored the production.

Katie Foster, chairwoman of the Shropshire Alzheimer's Research UK volunteer group, said: “Huge thanks to them, especially in this difficult year. VP Online DVD duplicating gave us lots of support and made it affordable. We are so grateful to everyone who made it possible. One in three people born today are predicted to develop dementia."

Nigel West, chairman of TBC, said: “We try to support the group and know how hard it is this year to raise funds. We are delighted to be able to help the group produce the DVD and thus the research scientists working to end the heartache of dementia.”

There are 18 songs and impressions from Sinatra and Elvis to Tom Jones and many more.

There are only a few DVDs left so to order yours email paulraymagic@gmail.com
