Three fire engines were dispatched to a lay-by on the A5 just past the Dobbies island shortly before 7.30am after reports that the vehicle was on fire.

But it transpired that it was just the lorry's coolant causing steam.

Commuters were struggling to get to work because of slow moving traffic after Shropshire Fire Service temporarily closed one lane. An unmarked police car was also on scene.

A fire service spokeswoman said: "A lorry's coolant was causing steam so it was a false alarm with good intent."
