Emergency services, including the air ambulance from Cosford, were called to the crash on the B5067 Berwick Road near the West Mid Showground at about 3.30pm on Saturday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service treated a man for serious injuries and he was airlifted to the major trauma centre in Stoke.

Berwick Road was shut from its junction at Coton Hill as a result, with a police officer controlling traffic next to the Woodman pub for around three hours.

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: "An ambulance, paramedic officer and the air ambulance with a doctor on board attended. Crews treated a motorcyclist who had suffered serious injuries.

"He was given advanced trauma car on scene and was airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital."

The road was reopened shortly after 7pm.
