It is believed that the woman, who was driving the car, had suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called to reports of a collision between a car and a hedge on Wem Road in Hamer Hill at 11.09am this morning.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a Community First Responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews were told the driver of the car, a woman, had suffered a medical emergency prior to the collision.

“Ambulance staff performed CPR and also administered advanced life support but sadly it became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.”

The road was closed and traffic was diverted through nearby lanes.
