Housebuilder Bellway is building a mix of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes on the site of King's Shropshire Light Infantry barracks off Copthorne Road.

The first few plots at the development – which will be known as Copthorne Keep – are set to be released for sale in April.

Marie Richards, sales director for Bellway West Midlands, said: “We are really pleased that the new homes at Copthorne Keep are beginning to take shape.

“There is a growing demand for new homes in Shropshire, so we have worked closely with local authorities to ensure we are helping to meet this need.

“The development has been carefully planned to offer properties that suit all types of people, from smaller homes for first-time buyers and downsizers to larger properties for growing families.

“We have already received a great deal of interest in the new homes at Copthorne Keep, so I would encourage anyone interested to register for updates on our website to avoid missing out.”

As part of the planning agreement, Bellway will also be making substantial contributions to the area, including £110,000 towards highway maintenance, more than £30,000 towards open space and a further £115,000 for a new sports pitch.

The historic keep has been retained while buildings including the officer's mess and accommodation blocks have been bulldozed to the ground.

Bellway Homes bought Copthorne Army Barracks from the Ministry of Defence in 2017 and applied to Shropshire Council for permission to demolish a number of buildings and build more than 200 new homes in the grounds.
