Severn Hospice has overhauled a former paint showroom on New Park Road in Castlefields, Shrewsbury, transforming it into a clothes, homewares and furniture fundraising superstore.

And the move has created four full and part-time jobs.

The new superstore will be the latest edition to the charity’s network of shops which were recently recognised as some of the best in the country after beating national competition to win the prestigious Outstanding Charity Retailer of the Year 2018.

Jodie Lucas, a former Pop Idol contestant, has been appointed as manager of the new superstore with Jamie Tinsley as deputy manager. Together the duo is hoping to bring the X-Factor to the new store.

Ms Lucas said: “I’ve worked in retail all my professional life and to have the opportunity of being part of the team opening up Severn Hospice’s first ever superstore is easily more exciting and challenging than singing on the telly.

“To work for a charity whose sole purpose is to help the community is something very new to me but such a rewarding thing to do, I can’t wait.

“Over the coming weeks we will be holding a number of events to meet the local community, recruit volunteers and hopefully take a few more donations ahead of our grand opening in September.

"As well as recruiting volunteers we are also looking for two part-time retail staff to join Jamie and myself. We will be sharing more details about the events on our social media pages.”

Severn Hospice, which cares for families in Shropshire and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness, needs to raise £2 of every £3 it spends.

The superstore – the only one of its kind in Shropshire and Mid Wales – is part of its long term fundraising strategy to support the development and enhancement of services for patients, where those needing its help are increasingly looked after in their own homes.
