Bernard Michael Walters, from Burlington Place, Shrewsbury, was on a Mediterranean cruise with his wife June Walters on June 14 and the ship was at sea between Italy and Spain.

Mr Walters, 83, got up in the night to use the toilet and the seas were rough. He slipped and hit his head causing an immediate nosebleed, an inquest into his death held at Shirehall was told yesterday.

He later deteriorated and was airlifted to hospital in Girona, Spain at 4.02pm the same day where he died.

The cause of Mr Walters's death was respiratory insufficiency caused by intracerebral hypertension due to intracerebral haemorrhage.

Coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, John Ellery, recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
