Lorry sheds animal carcasses after crash sparking environment fears
A busy Shropshire road was left partially blocked after a lorry shed its load of meat near Shrewsbury sparking an environmental alert.
Animal carcasses fell off the HGV on the A49 northbound carriageway between Church Stretton and Leebotwood on Friday at about 6.30pm.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue crews from Shrewsbury and Tweedale along with a specialist officer were sent to the scene to prevent any of the "waste from foodstuffs" entering the watercourse.
Highways England tweeted: "One lane is closed currently on the #A49 northbound between B4370 and A5/A5112 between #Longnor and #Leebotwood near Shrewsbury (south) due to a HGV shedding its load of animal carcasses. @WMerciaPolice on scene dealing with it. The road may need to be closed to deal with it."
