One of Shrewsbury's main roads will be closed for six evenings next month.

Telford Way, which links Ditherington to Monkmoor, will be closed from 7pm to 11pm on July 9, 10 and 11, and again on July 23, 24 and 25 for the same time period while surface dressing takes place and the road markings are replaced.

The diversion will direct drivers up to Battlefield roundabout, down the A49 to the A5, right on Emstrey roundabout, down Haycock Way, Bage Way and Robertson Way and back to Telford Way.

Final sweeping will be carried out on July 20 but a road closure is not required.

Steve Brown, Shropshire Council’s highways and transport service member, said: “Surface dressing is a simple, highly cost-effective and quick method of repairing the road surface, which can prevent much more expensive work being needed later. It allows us to maintain a high-quality road network on a finite budget.

“As well as improving and protecting our road surfaces, our annual surface dressing programme plays a crucial role in helping to prevent potholes and other defects forming in the future.

“The rapid speed of the process means that disruption to road users, local businesses and emergency services is minimised, but we thank road users for their understanding while this important work is carried out on Telford Way and in other locations across the county.”

If the work is completed ahead of schedule the road will not need to be closed for all of the nights.

Advance warning signs will be placed on site two weeks prior to works commencing.
