PC Jim Nicholson suffered injuries to his knee and elbow while arresting a man who was found in possession of drugs outside a school in Monkmoor on Tuesday.

West Mercia's police and crime commissioner John Campion has now responded to the incident saying officers "do not come to work to get assaulted".

He said: "Local police officers in West Mercia Police put themselves in harms way everyday to keep us safe but don’t come to work to get assaulted.

"I hope PC Nicholson is on the mend. #behindthebadge #ProtectTheProtectors"
