Third year Geography student, Carrie Lanceley, who studies at University Centre Shrewsbury is taking on Ben Nevis in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Along with three family members, she will be climbing the mountain at midnight, aiming to reach the summit by dawn on July 6.

Carrie said: “We recently lost a close family member, who suffered with dementia, and we felt it was time to give something back to help other people.

“The Alzheimer’s Society is a very worthy cause, and I have set myself the challenge of raising a minimum of £400 on my own, to contribute to the overall target of £1,600.

“Around 70 per cent of people in care homes suffer from this awful disease and it is predicted that by 2025 more than one million people in the UK will have Alzheimer's. This money will go to help fund research to find new treatments, or in the near future a cure for the disease.

“If you would like to support me, any donation, no matter how small would be much appreciated.”

So far the team of four have managed to raise almost £900.
